The Children's Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, ensures that nearly 9 million children have health insurance. CHIP is a federal-state partnership, where the federal government provides most, or in some cases all, of the funding necessary to cover uninsured children.
Nobody thought Congress would actually let CHIP funding expire on September 30, but that's exactly what they did. Republican leaders in Congress invested so much time and energy in making one last push to pass TrumpCare that they couldn't find time to reauthorize a program that gives millions of kids health insurance. CHIP funding expired over two weeks ago!
If Congress doesn't act soon, states will start running out of money. Ten states will exhaust their CHIP funding by the end of this year, and Louisiana will run out of money between January and March of 2018. It's up to us to call our members of Congress and demand they reauthorize CHIP now!

Hi, my name is [Your Name] from New Orleans, zip code 70118 [or wherever you're from].
I'm calling to urge the Senator to pass a bipartisan re-authorization of CHIP. Millions of children rely on this funding for insurance, and it should be reauthorized immediately. It is not acceptable that Congress has not found time to take care of this yet.
Thank you for your time and your hard work answering the phones. Stay safe out there.
