Your calls are needed as early as possible today, and if you can make it, there's a Community Briefing and Press Conference at 10:00 at 3401 Canal Street, ...
Jose Torres is a New Orleans-area father and long-time undocumented leader at risk of immediate detention and deportation. Jose has made countless contributions to the undocumented movement including establishing an anti-wage theft day laborer corner in Gretna, driving families for hours to visit loved ones at detention centers, and speaking out against the private prison industry in Washington D.C. It will be a great loss not only for Jose’s family but for our entire community if he is detained.
Please take 1 minute to make a call to New Orleans ICE Field Office’s Director, Brian Acuna, at (504) 599-7868, and send an email (NewOrleans.Outreach@ice.dhs.gov) NOW to demand that New Orleans ICE renew Jose Torres’s prosecutorial discretion.
You can use or adapt the following script:
Hi, my name is __________. I am reaching out today to request that your office renew Jose Torres’s prosecutorial discretion so that he can stay with his young U.S. citizen daughters who depend on him to survive. Mr. Torres’s A number is 200-061-563.
As you know, Mr. Torres’s daughters Kimberly and Julissa both have chronic conditions. His youngest, Kimberly, is especially vulnerable as she was born premature and has suffered from seizures since birth. These girls need their dad. Rather than plunging them into poverty and potential danger, you have the ability to allow them to grow up healthy and strong supported by their dad who loves them.
Mr. Torres is an essential member of our community and a father. Far from being in the public interest, his deportation would only destabilize a family and our broader community. Do not hesitate to contact me.
Jose has been told to report to ICE today with proof that he will depart the country within one month. Call and email today to prevent this local dad from being torn away from his family.
