Call of the Day: Oppose Budget Cuts To Science Programs

Thousands of you rallied on Saturday to defend science – what a weird world we live in that science should need defending! Well, it's time to translate that enthusiasm into some calls to save our favorite science-based governmental programs. The script below focuses on the EPA, NIH, and NOAA, but if you have a different favorite, feel free to add/substitute that one instead!

Who: Sen. Bill Cassidy and Sen. John Kennedy

Where: Cassidy - DC OFFICE: (202) 224-5824 and METAIRIE OFFICE: (504) 838-0130
Kennedy -  DC OFFICE: (202) 224-4623 and LAFAYETTE OFFICE (337) 269-5980

Reminders: Identify where you're calling from (town and zip code is fine) so they know you're an actual constituent. Be concise - the office will get through more calls that way. Be polite and don't argue with the staffer - they don't set policy.  If you get a voicemail, then leave a message. And if you get a busy signal -- call back later!

Sample script:

Hi, my name is [Name] from Metairie, zip code 70002 [or wherever you're from]. I don't need a response.

I'm calling to let Senator [NAME] know of my support for the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Institutes of Health, all science-based agencies that would suffer dramatic funding cuts if Trump's proposed budget comes to pass. Please help ensure that these agencies, and other science and research agencies, keep their funding so they can continue their life-saving, cutting-edge research in years to come.

Thank you for your time and your hard work answering the phones.
