I know you're sick of calling about health care. ME TOO. If it feels like we've been in the home stretch for, well, months, that's because we have been, since Congress keeps delaying its votes. That in itself is a victory: Remember, Congress wanted to repeal Obamacare on Day One of the Trump administration. They never thought that, six months later, they'd still be working on this. It's only because you spoke up, and kept speaking up, that they haven't taken away insurance coverage from 23 million Americans.
We can't give up now. But… other matters need our attention too. Russia, infrastructure, taxes, budgetary concerns, immigration… we're resisting on a hundred different fronts.
So if you can make only one call today? Let it be about healthcare. Don't let up on that. But, hey, if you want to mention something else while you're on the phone, here's another topic to touch on…
A new report from Tulane “suggests that, on average, the Louisiana coast is sinking at a rate of about 9 millimeters, or just over a third of an inch, per year — a faster rate than previous studies have suggested.”
Trump's budget would cut funding to coastal restoration efforts and GOMESA. Senator Cassidy has stated that he opposes the budget specifically because it would hurt efforts to restore our coasts, but Senator Kennedy (who, remember, helped engineer Louisiana’s current budget crisis) has praised the plan. Today, let Kennedy know that you expect him to stand up for Louisiana and protect our coastlines!
WHO TO CALL:
Sen. John Kennedy: DC OFFICE: (202) 224-4623 and MONROE OFFICE (318) 361-1489
Reminders: Identify where you're calling from (town and zip code is fine) so they know you're an actual constituent. Be concise - the office will get through more calls that way. Be polite and don't argue with the staffer - they don't set policy. If you get a voicemail, then leave a message. And if you get a busy signal -- call back later!
Hi, my name is [Name] from New Orleans, zip code 70118 [or wherever you're from]. I don't need a response.
I'm calling to let Senator Kennedy know that I want him to stand up for coastal restoration efforts in our state. A new report shows that the Louisiana coast is sinking faster than previously thought. Louisiana cannot afford cuts to coastal restoration efforts, FEMA or GOMESA, as proposed in the Trump budget. Please fight to protect these programs so we will have a Louisiana to continue to love.
Thank you for your time, and for your hard work answering the phones.
BONUS CALL- call Senator Cassidy and THANK him for standing up for Louisiana and coastal restoration at DC OFFICE: (202) 224-5824 and METAIRIE OFFICE: (504) 838-0130
