Call Of The Day: Demand the Treasury Department Release Trump's Tax Returns

UPDATE (11/6/2018): American voters have now elected a Democratic majority to the US House of Representatives. Under Democratic leadership, the House will now have the power to begin investigating the corruption and misconduct of the Trump administration, starting with Trump himself. Call today to urge the Democrat-led House Ways and Means Committee to reintroduce the Resolution of Inquiry to direct the Treasury Department to release President Trump's tax returns.

Section 6103, a tax law statute from 1924, gives three congressional committees (Senate Finance, Joint Committee on Taxation, and House Ways and Means) broad discretion to request tax returns from individuals for examination. This law was used in 1974 to obtain President Nixon’s tax returns and again in 2014 to investigate the IRS’s handling of non-profits.

Representative Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) of the House Ways and Means Committee and Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) of the Senate Finance Committee both introduced Resolutions of Inquiry in their respective committees directing the Treasury Department to release Trump's tax returns. However, both resolutions were struck down by the GOP majorities. Acquiring Trump’s taxes is crucial to understanding his financial conflicts of interest and entanglements with Russia. The GOP is practicing partisan politics over the interests of the American people by refusing to release critical information to their constituents.

Two calls to make:  Representative Richmond or Scalise, and the House Ways and Means Committee

Because of how the Louisiana Congressional districts have been gerrymandered, New Orleans residents have either Richmond or Scalise as their representative.  If you don't know who your representative is, you can look it up by entering your home address on the U.S. House of Representatives website.

Representative Cedric Richmond - in DC at (202) 225-6636, and in New Orleans at (504) 288-3777
OR
Representative Steve Scalise - in DC at (202) 225-3015, and in Metairie at (504) 837-1259
