Call Of The Day: Say "NO" To The New Orleans City Council

Happy Tuesday Y'all! Share and share!

Just a reminder that our lame duck City Council plans to vote this week to:

A. Allow a $210 million gas powered plant to pollute our neighborhoods while doing nothing to improve the reliability of our power grid.
B. Add 1,500 cameras at bars, restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, and pharmacies across the city, feeding to a central command with unfettered access by federal agencies.
C. Cap the number of strip clubs on Bourbon St., after NOPD has been mobilized to lock workers out of their livelihoods through "trafficking" raids that have found no actual crimes.

And there may still be a few more opportunities to allow new luxury high rises with no affordable housing in our residential neighborhoods; sacrifice vital wetland areas to industrial build up; and to offer family and friends access to short-term rental spot zoning!

Who knows, because they’re hiding on the West Bank!

The Council meetings are still taking place in Algiers, making it hard for our residents to show up but making it easy for the Council to limit the number of speakers on each issue to 5.

We voted them out, and they don't believe that there's a political price to be paid as they ram through long-term, radical changes to our city on the way out the door.

So...THIS IS THE WEEK OF NO! Just NO, to all of the above!

Get on the phone, send an email (or 8), come to Council on Thursday and car pool if you can. Stand with MaCCNO, Congreso, LA ACLU, the Independent Police Monitor, the Alliance for Affordable Energy, and BARE.
